Crafts You Can DoTire Track T-shirt
Here's what you'll need:
1. Lay the shirt on a smooth surface. Slip the cardboard inside the shirt so paint doesn't soak through. 2. Cut about a 12' by 12' square of Contact T paper. Don't peel it apart yet. 3. In the center of the Contact T paper cut out a 5-6' basic shape such as a heart or square. 4. Gently peel off the backing from the paper. With an adult's help, place the sticky paper on the shirt. Make sure the cut out design is where you want the decoration to be. 5. Smooth the Contact T paper firmly to the shirt around the edges of the cut out design. This is your home-made stencil. 6. Pour fabric paint onto paper plates, one color per plate. 7. Here's the fun part. Place the wheels of the toy car in the paint. Move it back and forth to get paint on the tires. 8. Take the car and "drive" it back and forth over the exposed part of shirt material inside the stencil. 9. Wash car tires and repeat with another color until you get the design you want. 10. Let dry overnight. 11. Peel off the sticky paper and you'll have a unique tire track designed shirt. If you want, trace the outline with a permanent marker. Easy Tie-Dye Tennis Shoes
Here's what you'll need:
1. Lay out the newspaper on a table. 2. Crumple up one color of tissue paper about the size of a walnut. 3. Dab the tissue paper in the water and then onto the shoe in a random pattern. The color from the paper will "bleed." Repeat with 2-3 different colors, until you get the tie-dye look you want. Fancy Foam Earrings
Supplies:
1. Cut out a variety of small shapes from the foam, or use pre-cut pieces. Any type of circle, heart or strips will work. 2. Mix and match the shapes until you get a design you like. Even if you have pre-cut pieces you can cut those in half to make unique designs. 3. Use a toothpick to apply glue and attach the pieces together. Try layering different shapes on top of each other. 4. Add sequins if you want. 5. Let dry. 6. Attach the foam earring to the ear ring hooks or pin backs 7. Wear with pride! Pointed Puppets
Follow these easy steps: 1. Cut out 6 cardboard triangles that are at least 5 inches at the base and 9 inches tall. (As long as all 6 triangles are the same size, the puppet will turn out fine.) 2. Tape three triangle pieces together with duct tape so they make "pyramids". 3. Tape the other three triangles together. 4. Attach the two "Pyramids" together on one base edge with duct tape. This gives you the shape of the puppet. 5. Cover the puppet with fabric, fake fur or contact paper. 6. Add eyes, mouth and tongue to give your puppet personality. Silly Spoons
You'll need:
1. Draw a face on the back, rounded portion of the spoon. 2. Now simply glue on yarn for hair and add clothes using your fabric scraps. 3. You'll be amazed how each "Spoon Person" looks completely different!" Lick and Stick Sculpture
This craft is very inexpensive and certainly unusual! 1. Next time you and an adult are by a postal packing center, ask if you can buy a small bag of biodegradable packing peanuts. (They'll usually give them to you for free) They look just like Styrofoam packing peanuts you use when mailing fragile items, except these disintegrate in water! 2. When you get home, set a damp cloth on your work area. Lightly dab one end of the biodegradable packing peanut on the damp cloth. Now "stick" it to another peanut. It bonds instantly! 3. Continue dampening one peanut and attaching it to another, which creates a sculpture. You can actually lick one end of the peanut and stick it to another one. They are made out of cornstarch, so it is safe! 4. Happy sculpting! If you want more ideas for great craft kits and supplies, check out the S&S website at www.ssww.com |
